Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
